World Fit Walk 2012

The World Fit Walk 2012 is just around the corner and we're excited to be participating once again! The time has come to register for the walk. Students, please fill out this form with your information to register yourself to participate in World Fit 2012.

Athletics

Athletic Director: Mr. Sowders

Band/Orchestra

It is our goal to educate every student to the fullest extent in skill development, cognitive understanding, and aesthetic appreciation for all forms of music from all cultures. Performance, rehearsal and personal practice skill are a focus. Students are encouraged to have a good work ethic, show consistent progress, and develop personal goals while achieving new skills. Instruction on band and string instruments at Rapid Run begins in the sixth grade. 8th grade students earn high school credit for their participation in either class. . Skills learned in class culminate in a minimum of three performances each year including a music competition at Kings Island.

Builder's Club

The Builders Club is a service club that provides service and outreach for those in the community. The main goal of Builders Club is to help develop leadership and strong character traits through serving others in our community. The Builders Club is sponsored by the Kiwanis. It is open to all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Meetings are the first Thursday of every month.

Cheerleading

This sport requires hard-working and dedicated seventh and eighth graders. Cheer season starts in July and runs all the way through February. Cheerleaders not only cheer and dance for football and basketball games, they also help promote school spirit with pep rallies and after-school pump up gatherings for all sports. The cheerleaders can usually be found supporting RRMS on a sideline, but whenever you see them around school they are always proving they bleed a real color, Red, by being true Rams fans! All participants must be academically eligible and there is a participation fee.

German Club

Rapid Run German Club - Deutscher Klub promotes German language and culture. 
After school club meetings include fun activities associated with German culture such as holidays, traditional celebrations and food. By participating in the German Club activities, students find out more about German speaking countries, the German language, and are able to experience first hand beautiful German traditions.

RRMS STEM Club

RRMS STEM Club is a club open to all 6th grade students. The group will meet two times per month and will be presented with a challenge or problem to solve using the Scientific Method, available Technology, the Principles of Engineering, Mathematics, and any available materials.

Mathletes

Are you a seventh grader who enjoys problem solving, strategizing and tackling math related problems? Do you like to challenge your mind with brainteasing and mindbending puzzles? If so, MATHLETES is the club for YOU! Here you get a chance to figure out problems collaboratively as well as individually in a competitive and non-competitive atmosphere. If you are someone who enjoys everything this club has to offer but would rather not compete, this club is still for YOU. Competition participation is optional. Hope to see you at our next Mathlete meeting! Check room 202 for details.

Musicals

Each year Rapid Run puts on a musical. It's a great opportunity to showcase your talents by becoming a cast member or a member of the tech crew. The next musical will take place in the spring of 2010.

National Junior Honor Society

NJHS is an organization devoted to service, academics, and leadership. Students are chosen in the seventh grade based on their grade point average, teacher recommendation, and participation in extra-curricular activities. Throughout the eighth grade year members do service work at Rapid Run and in the community. Meetings are held every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of the month from 2:15-3:00 in the LGI.

OH Juniors Dance Team

The OH Jrs. Dance Team was formed during the 1999-2000 school year. This team is comprised of 7th, 8th, and 9th graders from Oak Hills Schools. They hold several SCAU State and National dance titles.

Advisors: Ms. Cook, Ms. Richardson, Ms. Kramer, Ms. Dorsey, and Ms. Ballard

Peer Mediators

Conflicts between students are a normal part of daily life. Common middle school conflicts include name-calling, rumors, threats, relationship or friendship issues and more. RRMS has a peer mediation program to assist students with these situations. Trained 8th grade peer mediators facilitate the conflict resolution process between students. With adult supervision, peer mediators help students in conflict listen to each other’s point of view, focus on the dispute, and create their own solutions.

Rapid Run Revue

(January - March)
Students have a chance to showcase their hidden talents in this one-of-a-kind variety show. If you long to be on stage singing, dancing, playing an istrument, in a skit, etc., be sure to audition for a spot in the show. Auditions are held in January and the shows take place in March. There are also opportunities for those of you who would rather be behind the scenes in the tech crew. The tech crew is the mastermind behind the show doing things like pulling the curtain, running lights and sound, and setting the stage.

Robotics

The Robotics club designs, programs, and builds a LEGO mind storms robot to compete with 23 other middle schools in a regional competition each year. Members learn about "Gracious Professionalism", teamwork, problem solving, and presents a project that covers some aspect of technology or the environment to a panel of judges at the regional competition. The Robotics club at Rapid Run has 2 teams with up to 10 members each. Robotics club meets after school from September until December. Recruiting for the club occurs in August of each school year.

Spanish Club

If you are currently taking Spanish at Rapid Run Middle School, are in the 8th grade and would like to explore Spanish with more than just libros y papel (books and paper) then join the Club de Español, where students can meet with their amigos and learn about the Spanish culture, watch movies en Español or even make a trip to Cancun - the restaurant, to experience the food and fun of the Spanish language and culture! Put what you've learned in class into action!

Spelling Bee

Each year, Rapid Run enrolls one student into The Scripps National Spelling. During the winter months, all students take a spelling pretest within their Language Arts classroom. The top scores from each grade level qualify for the school-wide spelling bee. The single winner of the spelling bee will be headed to WCPO’s sponsored regional competition at the Duke Energy Center in February. The Champion has the opportunity to compete on ESPN in Washington D.C.

Student Council

Students with great love for the activities at Rapid Run are members of student council. Students were selected at the beginning of the year by their peers and teachers to participate. These students make many of the important decisions that impact the student population. Some of their major activities include spirit weeks, pep rallys, canned food drive for Thanksgiving, and the toy drive for the holidays.

Yearbook

The yearbook staff is a group of students responsible for creating the Rapid Run Middle School yearbook. These select students take the photographs and assist with the sale and distribution of the book. After school hours are spent twice monthly to learn the skills needed to publish a first class edition and then apply those skills to ensure that all Rapid Run students have a memory book that will provide hours of enjoyment.

3 on 3 Basketball Tournament

Each spring 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are invited to participate in the annual 3 on 3 basketball tournament. Students get creative with uniforms and team names and then choose to compete in the “fun” division or the “competitive” division. Winners of each division are given trophies and bragging rights for a year. Three point and free throw shooting contests also take place during the event.

8th Gr. Washington D.C. Trip

Each year in May eighth grade students take a trip to Washington D.C. It is an amazing once–in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students to see first-hand the foundation of our country. The trip is a great reflection of the curriculum that students learn in History and Language Arts classes. To help offset the costs of the trip early registration discounts and fund raising opportunities are available.

7th Gr. Space Camp

Every fall the seventh grade has the unique opportunity to visit the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. Students gain a life full of memorable experiences and wealth of information about the United States Space Program. This trip is an extension to the space unit taught in seventh grade science. This is trip is for seventh graders with "The Right Stuff."

8th Grade German Trip to Chicago

8th grade students experience first hand German culture and traditions during our annual trip to Chicago. During the trip, students visit the authentic German Christmas Market which is the largest event like this in the United States.
Other highligths of the trip include: a German submarine from the World War II in the Chicago Science Institute, a display of Christmas trees from all over the world and a great collection of authentic German armor from the Middle Ages in the Chicago Art Institute. A visit to the famous Brauhaus Restaurant, one of the best German restaurants in the United States and Sears Tower completes this unique cultural experience
